4 Shows To Prove Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) Worthy As TVB’s ‘TV King’

If you’ve constantly been in the loop of the best Hong Kong dramas, then I’m sure Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) is a familiar face. This veteran actor has starred in a myriad of popular TVB shows, with blockbuster crime series ‘Sinister Beings (逆天奇案)’ sitting as his latest feature this year. Suppose you haven’t caught Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) in any of his dramas yet, fret not, for he has several upcoming shows awaiting broadcast!

Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) has certainly hit it big, for not only has he received critical acclaim for his numerous performances, but he also boasts plenty of impressive accolades under his belt! Think ‘My Favourite TVB Actor’ and ‘My Favourite Actor in a Leading Role’ – these are awards many Hong Kong actors can only dream of attaining. It’s no wonder fans, like yours truly, are speculating that he may be crowned TVB’s next ‘TV King’.

Although he’s known for many different portrayals across dramas of different genres, I believe the following four shows flaunt his acting chops best. So, join me in noting these titles down and binge-watch his enthralling dramas!

1. A Fist Within Four Walls (城寨英雄)

A Fist Within Four Walls (城寨英雄)

Are you a fan of action-packed dramas? Then, you must’ve come across ‘A Fist Within Four Walls (城寨英雄)’, an award-winning series set in the Kowloon Walled City of the early 1960s. Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) takes the limelight as male protagonist Chor Au-kuen (Ruco Chan 陳展鵬), an expert Bajiquan master searching for his long-lost sister. While embarking on this tumultuous journey, he battles countless ruthless triads and villainous forces and restores peace in the city.

I have to say, watching him portray such a suave character highly versed in martial arts techniques was a sight to behold. After all, it’s a refreshing change from the usual comedic roles he used to take on in his previous dramas! Clearly, Ruco Chan’s (陳展鵬) acting skills are impeccable, for he can adapt to any character, regardless of genre, with incredible ease.

His fantastic chemistry with Tiu Lan (Nancy Wu胡定欣) is also commendable. They’re one of the most compatible on-screen couples I’ve seen, delivering effortless banters and touching performances throughout the show as their characters gradually develop feelings for each other. It’s no surprise that they both won “My Favourite On-Screen Couple” at the 2016 Starhub TVB Awards!

Did I also mention that Ruco Chan’s (陳展鵬) exceptional execution as a strong-headed protagonist on a quest for justice in this series paved the way for his leading roles in action dramas? He’s now the face of every adrenaline-fueled crime procedural show!

2. Sinister Beings (逆天奇案)

Sinister Beings (逆天奇案)

Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) doesn’t take long to land himself another acting role in a crime thriller series. This year, he’s back in the game with ‘Sinister Beings (逆天奇案)’! Yet again, he plays the character of a chivalric police officer, Hui Chun-sum (Ruco Chan 陳展鵬), to perfection, leaving viewers swooning over his gallantry.

Have you been consistently following Ruco Chan’s (陳展鵬) TVB TV shows? In that case, you’ll agree that there’s something incredibly addictive about watching him engage in punchy fight scenes with criminals and seeking justice for the weak in action dramas.

Perhaps it’s that everything seems to be working against Hui Chun-sum (Ruco Chan 陳展鵬) and his partner Shum Wai-lik (Ben Wong 黃智賢). Or, that each episode ends on a cliffhanger, and I’m left on the edge of my seat as I ponder over what Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) is going to do next. I can’t help but wonder: how will he deconstruct a serial criminal’s mind and decipher their motives? And which side of Hui Chun-sum will audiences be privy to today?

3. The Unholy Alliance (同盟)

The Unholy Alliance (同盟)

As the follow-up production to ‘A Fist Within Four Walls (城寨英雄)’, ‘The Unholy Alliance (同盟)’ lives up to its predecessor’s hype and success. The sequel encompasses everything a quintessential Hong Kong action series should be: chock-full of bloody fistfights, romance, and betrayals. Of course, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) is embroiled in the middle of it all, for he is the protagonist entangled with various crime syndicates.

As a filial son with a mind to protect his mother from her enemies and the dangers around her, Ko Tsz-kit (Ruco Chan 陳展鵬) is the endearing hero that everyone is rooting for. What’s more impressive is that you’ll be treated with a multitude of martial arts stunts performed by the actor himself!

Months before the production, did you know that he took on shooting and martial arts lessons to immerse himself in the role? It truly goes to show just how much dedication and passion this stellar actor has towards acting. If I haven’t convinced you enough, be sure to check out my review of ‘The Unholy Alliance (同盟)’ – this drama is sure to leave you wanting more of Ruco Chan (陳展鵬).

4. Captain Of Destiny (張保仔)

Captain Of Destiny (張保仔)

Watching Ruco Chan’s (陳展鵬) portrayal in ‘Captain Of Destiny (張保仔)’ was another turning point for me, because yet again, excellent performance by this veteran actor! What can I say, he succeeds in both historical dramas and in modern-day action shows, which made me realise just how diverse his acting can be. You won’t be disappointed with this series either, for each episode is weaved with unforeseen twists and turns!

We first see him as a domineering and haughty prince, Man-ho (Ruco Chan 陳展鵬), who gradually softens into a compassionate individual. But when you’re warming up to his character, the plot thickens: he turns out to be a villain! Viewers are taken on a rollercoaster ride, for this is an unexpected plot twist that you’ll never see coming.

Playing the bad guy has added another layer of depth to Ruco Chan’s (陳展鵬) acting skills, for he is more than capable of merely portraying morally upright characters – he’s able to nail the role of an antagonist wonderfully, too. He earned himself the TVB Anniversary Award of “Most Popular Male Character” in the same year the show was released.
